About ISA Nigeria

The International Society of Automation (ISA) (www.isa.org) is a non-profit professional association founded in 1945 to create a better world through automation. ISA advances technical competence by connecting the automation community to achieve operational excellence and is the trusted provider of standards-based foundational technical resources, driving the advancement of individual careers and the overall profession.

ISA develops widely used global standards (ISA 84, ISA 100, ANSI/IEC 62443, ISA 88, ISA5.1, ISA 105 etc); certifies automation professionals; provides education and training; publishes books/technical articles; hosts conferences & exhibits; and provides networking and career development programs for its members and customers around the world. ISA Nigeria Section (www.isanigeria.org), is the official representative of ISA Global Body in Nigeria responsible for driving the global objectives in Nigeria, one of which is, driving automation knowledge growth by training & global certifications and other like career development path mentoring, new technologies deployment, creating awareness of standards/industry best practices, membership drives & benefits.
ISA Nigeria Timeline

October 3, 2004

ISA Nigeria Section was chartered by the ISA Global District Board under the Former District 12 (now EMEA & Pakistan District). Mr. Samuel Olukunle Falase served as the first Section President, initiating the association’s activities. However, there was minimal engagement and low awareness in Nigeria during this period.

January 4, 2013

Under new leadership with Mr. Lawal Gbolahan as President, alongside Mr. Amos Ologunleko (Vice President), Olawale Akande (Program Chair), and Loveth Onuigbo (Admin/Education Chair), ISA Nigeria began to see gradual commencement of activities.

July 2016

The section was reactivated with support from Rachael McGuffin and other ISA leaders. The first general meeting was coordinated and led by Lawal Gbolahan at Dailytimes compound, Agidingbi, Ikeja Lagos. This meeting resulted in the election and inauguration of new Excos, including:

  • Lawal Gbolahan (Retained as Section President)
  • Amos Ologunleko (Vice President)
  • Olawale Akande, CAP (Program Chair/Section Delegate)
  • Okechukwu Okoli (Secretary)
  • Ejike Francis (Treasurer)
  • Basil Manafa (Membership Chair)
  • Adewale Lawal (Newsletter Editor)
  • Biodun Odewale (Webmaster)
  • Chinemerem Nwosu, CAP (Publication Chair)
  • Loveth Onuigbo (Education Chair)

September 1, 2020

Following a general nomination and election, new Excos were elected, including:

  • Dapo Sosanya, CAP (Section President)
  • Olawale Akande, CAP (President-Elect)
  • Ote Amuta (Secretary)
  • Kevin Omodibo (Treasurer)

Amos Ologunleko was later nominated as Membership Chair, and Lawal Gbolahan as Past President. Key initiatives during this tenure included the CAP study group for members planning to write the ISA certified automation professional (CAP) exam, and the DEEP (Development, Employability Program) for undergraduates and young graduates.

November 2022

New Excos were elected, featuring:

  • Olawale Akande (President)
  • Mary Alugbin (Vice President)
  • Gentle Agoh (Treasurer)
  • Emmanuel Alimikhena (Secretary)
  • Halima Mohammed (Program Chair)

Additional committee chairs included:

  • Nobleson Osuala (Membership Chair)
  • Olubodun Abiola (Education Chair)
  • Gimba Bala (YP Co-chair)
  • Olaitan Odufuwa (Media/Publication Chair)

During this tenure, the President (Olawale Akande, CAP) & Excos/Committee Chairs:

  • Grew the membership to 100 from less than 60, achieving this milestone by December 2023 within 12 months of tenure, making ISA Nigeria the largest section in Africa.
  • Improved CAP study group by introducing instructors from outside Nigeria (Tesla US, UK, Cameroon, Canada, etc.). Attendance grew from 18 to over 40 with members from neighboring countries.
  • Held consistent monthly general meetings/webinars with top experts.
  • Started Student Chapter processes for universities including University of Ibadan, University of Ilorin, University of Benin, and more.
  • Started ISA Professional Trainings in collaboration with Integrators.
  • Upgraded the DEEP program into graduates/YP boot camp and expanded it to two states.
  • Launched the ISA Website.
  • Started the process of introducing ISA into high schools with the hosting of Robotics competition (iSANBOt Competition 2024).
  • Increased participation of ISA Nigeria on social media, achieving 3rd position in a social media contest.
  • Started the process of holding the first physical Annual Conference, ISANAC 2024.
  • Sponsored over 15 student memberships at University of Ibadan, 20 at University of Ilorin, over 10 professional memberships, and financially supported technology conferences at University of Benin and University of Ilorin. Mentored several engineers within the industry.
